Boat charter is the only way to surf this unique group of 1,190 coral islands based around 26 atolls. The best time to book your surfing charter in the Maldives is from February to October, with the biggest swells likely to occur in June to September. The surf generally ranges in size from 3 – 8 ft, occasionally larger.
The Maldives has 3 major surfing zones, the Male Atolls surfed April to October, the Central Atolls surfed May to October and the Outer Atolls surfed February to April.
The North Malé Atoll has the most popular breaks such as Lohis, Cokes, Chickens, Sultans, Jailbreaks, Honkys and Ninjas. The North Male Atolls offer a mix of rights and lefts featuring some long point breaks as well as some hollower reefs. The South Male atoll has several waves and is less crowded than the North Male breaks. The Central Atolls are between the Male Atolls and Outer Atolls.
The Outer Atolls of Gaafu Dhaal and Seenu are the southernmost atolls in the Maldives with around a dozen potential world class breaks that are rarely surfed. This area breaks best on the NE monsoon which occurs between December and April.
